On Wednesday 16 September, we welcomed a new group of exchange students who are starting their exchange programme at our faculty. The students were welcomed by Dr Michaela Zahradníková, Vice-Dean for International Relations. The meeting was organized by the faculty’s International Office.
“The welcome meeting is a tradition. It is important to us that the students feel welcome here; we want to make their first days and weeks in a new environment easier,” explains Simona Černá, the incoming students coordinator at the Faculty of Arts.
Interest in mobilities at the faculty remains stable; this year, there has been a slight increase compared to the previous academic year. A total of 149 students have enrolled, 11 of whom are on practical placements. Students come not only from the EU but also from other parts of the world, most frequently from Asia, but also for example from Africa.
As far as Europe is concerned, students from Spain have long been the largest group in terms of numbers, accounting for up to twenty per cent of all exchange students. We also welcomed students from Poland, Italy, France, Lithuania, Turkey, Slovakia and other countries. Non-European students often come from Taiwan, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Kazakhstan and the People’s Republic of China.
At the faculty, international students most frequently choose courses in fields such as international relations, psychology, economics and management studies, modern languages and literature, sociology, media studies and history. In the current semester, 17 students from China, one student from Japan and three students from Poland will be studying Czech as their main field of study.
However, the choice is much wider, and international students can choose from other fields of study according to their preferences.
We wish all the exchange students and their teachers that their cooperation brings both mutual benefit and joy.
