Club 12 is a new space opened by the Faculty of Arts at Palacký University for its students. It operates under special conditions designed to best accommodate the natural needs of student club activities.
There are currently more than twenty student clubs and initiatives active at the UP Faculty of Arts, which have long sought to establish a coworking and community space. In cooperation with the faculty administration, the former reading room in the basement of the building at Křížkovského 12 was selected and renovated. This week, the space was officially handed over for use and will remain open until late in the evening. Reservations are handled via a shared form; amenities include, among other things, a projector, computers with a printer, and an informal relaxation area.

According to Dean Jan Stejskal, the goal is to support student gatherings, which form the cornerstone of the faculty’s mission. “The extracurricular activities of student organizations are one of the social, cultural, and academic pillars of the Faculty of Arts, and they often organically complement and expand upon classroom instruction, helping to enrich students’ skill sets. In addition to establishing student internships at the Dean’s Office, this is another step toward strengthening the bond between the student community and the institution that serves them,” he said.

Martin Kubeš of the Faktory association, who initiated the club’s founding, added: “Although the university has a Student Club at Zbrojnice, the number of initiatives exceeds its capacity. That is why we hope that having our own space will allow for more intensive interaction across departments and disciplines and will enhance the professionalization of our association’s activities.”

According to Petr Bilík, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Palacký University, these types of activities will continue: “We would like every building on the faculty campus to provide facilities for student clubs. Together with the Student Chamber of the Faculty Academic Senate, we will strive to find a systematic and transparent solution that will provide students with the best possible conditions for their clubs’ activities.”
