ANNOTATION: Titian (c. 1488/90– 1576) was the greatest Venetian artist of the Renaissance. His religious and profane paintings as well as his portraits were high in demand not only in Italy but all over Europe already during his lifetime. Titian became a role model for future generations of artists. The lectures provide deep insights into Titian’s oeuvre and analyzes works by Seventeenth Century artists such as the Carracci, Poussin, Rubens and Velázquez among others who imitated Titian. The historical context in which these Seventeenth Century imitations and emulations of Titian’s works and his artistic persona took place will be of particular interest.
